In 2006, PLDT’s massive network enhancement and expansion program responded to fast-changing telecommunication technology developments: growing market clamor for faster and more robust capacities, and the boom of Next Wave Cities demanding solid network linkage. PLDT’s ambitious Next Generation Network (NxGN) brought PLDT’s platforms and networks to higher levels of bandwidth capabilities and performance superiority. Today, the next-gen dream has become reality.
Features and Benefits
PLDT’s DFON (Domestic Fiber Optic Network) integrates 11 major self-healing loops and 3 sub-tending loops traversing the entire Philippine archipelago from Northern Luzon to the Southern Island of Mindanao, incorporating over 11, 100 kilometers of fiber optic cable, with built-in triple level redundancy on all major loops.
DFON is the largest in-country domestic fiber optic backbone in the Philippines, running at over 4.6 Terabits per second of operating capacity.
PLDT’s nodes, 1.5X more than any other telecom provider in the country, are strategically located all over the Philippine Isles, allowing PLDT customers a more granular access to connectivity.
PLDT ALPHA leverages on renowned IP-driven cost-efficiencies through its IP Core Network, a direct product of NxGN. PLDT’s DFON has also revealed a new dimension of Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) Technology, enabling it to extend beyond Layer 3 IPVPN, to offer new innovations such as the Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS), a foundation of Layer 2 VPNs, and Pseudowire Circuit Emulation.
PLDT’s network infrastructure is strengthened by its landing stations – the Asia Pacific Cable Network or APCN2 in Nasugbu, Batangas, and Asia America Gateway or AAG in Bauang, La Union. PLDT also built a third landing station in Daet, Camarines Norte for the Asia Submarine Cable Express, the only active underwater cable system in the Eastern Seaboard which will serve to connect the Philippines with our Asian neighbors such as Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Mainland China, as well link us to Europe, the Middle East and the United States.
